Our Story
I remember the first time Grandma taught me to cross-stitch. I was just five years old, sitting on her lap in the cozy living room. She placed a piece of fabric in my hands and showed me how to hold the needle. "Just like this," she said, her voice gentle and warm, just like her smile. As I fumbled with the needle, she patiently guided my hands, her touch as soft as the fabric itself.
Years later, when I was twelve, Grandma helped me with my first full-sized quilt. We spent countless hours together, choosing the fabrics, cutting the pieces, and stitching them together. It was a labor of love, and I cherish the memories we made during that time.
As the years went on, I taught myself to knit, crochet, and even spin my own yarn. I was inspired by Grandma's love of crafting and her dedication to her work. When my daughter was born, I knitted her baby clothes, feeling a deep sense of connection to Grandma as I worked.
From a young age, I dreamed of opening my own yarn store. I imagined a cozy shop filled with the colors and textures of yarn, where people could come together to share their love of crafting. I wanted to create a space that would honor Grandma's memory and inspire others to pick up needles and hooks.
Grandma passed away in 2012, but her memory lives on in me. I miss her dearly, but I know that she is watching over me. My dream is now a reality as I finally opened my online craft store, "The Whimsical Stitchery," in 2024. While it may not be a physical storefront, I hope that it creates a sense of community and connection for knitters and crocheters everywhere.
As I work on my website, I often think about Grandma and the time we spent together. Her love for the craft has inspired me to share my passion with others. And I know that every skein of yarn sold, every stitch cast on, is a small tribute to the woman who taught me so much and helped me to fulfill my dream.
